about
Exactly one year ago, 15 March 2020, New Zealand and the world was stunned by an act of hatred. A terror attack in a Mosque caused 51 people to lose their lives, and affected many more. The victims were immigrants and refugees who called New Zealand their new home.
As a New Zealander, I wrote this song as a tribute to them as well as to immigrants all over the world who are simply trying to live their best lives for themselves and their families. One year ago, 51 people were robbed of this chance. I'm currently an immigrant living in Germany, my parents are immigrants in New Zealand and as our world continues to mix cultures, races and ethnicities, I want to deliver this reminder that we are all one people and to condemn discrimination of any kind.
The goal of the attacker was to divide us, however the contrary happened. I was so touched and proud to see how my country stood up and united against such hatred. We now share a bond as Kiwis that is stronger than it was before. We owe it to those who lost their lives to keep growing stronger and to love one another. To the ones who fell, may they rest in peace ❤️

lyrics
You were just a little girl, your folks moved here to start new lives
You bought into the idea that your future would be bright
In your new home
You wouldn’t have to hide
So you started here from scratch, made new friends on your first day
You felt safe for the first time, out in the open you could play
In your new home
You wouldn’t have to hide
But evil comes in many forms
Ignorance comes in many shades
The world is under a raging storm
In your new home
And it took your precious life away
A world of hate, is a world in pain
Can’t we realise, we’re humans, and we’re all the same
When darkness smothers us, together we must pray
For the ones, who gave away
Their lives
So you learnt a brand new language, at school you did well to keep up
All the other kids were nice to you, you found people you could trust
In your new home
You didn’t have to hide
But you never would forget your roots, and so you never should
Your beliefs were at the heart of you, and people understood
In your new home
You didn’t have to hide
But evil comes in many forms
Ignorance comes in many shades
The world is under a raging storm
In your new home
And it took your precious life away
A world of hate, is a world in pain
Can’t we realise, we’re humans, and we’re all the same
When darkness smothers us, together we must pray
For the ones, who gave away
Their lives
Gather round, burn your candle,
And shine their light

in my comfort zone with the security of a steady income. I used to see music as an unattainable dream, but 18 months ago, against the wishes of my parents, I packed up what courage I could fit in a backpack and headed to Germany to follow my heart....more
